Yamori is blunt, cunning and somewhat short-tempered with an eye for trouble wherever he goes. He is essentially a delinquent since his childhood, having to grow up without knowing his real parents along with his Quirk that made many children pick on him and treat him like a freak or a monster. He is prone to take his anger out on those who caused the problem by threatening their lives, but mostly threatens to harm or fight them in order to keep them away. Yamori developed a great disliking towards humans, or rather those who are considered "normal" by society, even heroes whom many see as normal. This of course made him bitter with the world around him, until he met a fellow Mutant named Tsuyu.
When around a friend or comrade, Yamori can show his mellow side, which causes others to tease him of being "nice", only for him to quickly cover it up by acting mean or insensitive. He tries to maintain his delinquent image towards everyone, but dials it down since he is often paired with "softies". He also has a habit of glaring at those who intrigue him, such as Tsuyu.

Due to Yamori not making any friends because of his features as well as his violent tendencies, Tsuyu wanted to meet him and become his first friend much to Yamori's dismay. She always followed him around despite his telling her to stay away, but he soon had a change of heart after realizing that Tsuyu has a Mutant type Quirk as well which makes her appear frog-like. She said she liked him because he looks like a salamander, therefore making the two "amphibian buddies" and began spending more time together especially after revealing that they did not have any friends until meeting each other.
Because their situations were quite similar, Tsuyu and Yamori can understand each other and sympathize with the other's struggles. Tsuyu revealed that she used to be picked on because of her frog-like appearance and would sometimes cry to herself or rarely to her parents, however Yamori wanted to bring harm to those who insulted her only for Tsuyu to calm him down. He even gave her the nickname "Tsu" and was the first to do so, as he stated that its easier to remember and only friends should call her that. This led Tsuyu to nickname him "Mori", though he quickly protested the idea, this did not stop her from using it when referring to him. While not wanting a nice girl like her to go down his path, Yamori simply advises Tsuyu to always keep a level head and never let anyone put her down or get emotional. Something she takes to heart which became part of Tsuyu's character as she grew older.

She reunites with him years later during the rescue mission to save Eri from the Eight Precepts of Death, but on opposing sides; with Tsuyu on the hero side while Yamori temporarily stands on the villain side. The two were shocked to see each other again, but Tsuyu was the most surprised to see him working with a villainous group and how he attempted to attack her. Yamori, however, decided to spare her because he wishes no harm towards a fellow Mutant and his old friend. Before he and Yōmō left, Tsuyu demanded to know his reason for becoming a villain, which he responds by stating that he is neither a hero nor a villain, and claims they will see each other again.
Yōmō Sangaku: The two first met during Yamori's journey to search for his parents when she got separated from her flock. Due to her meek helpless persona, he decided to take her back to her flock safely, unaware of her terrifying Quirk. She was eternally grateful for his good deed despite him claiming that he is not a good person and his deed was nothing, but Yōmō still wanted to repay him for his kindness by inviting him to spend time with her family.
After learning of each other's respective Quirks, Yōmō was relieved that he was not afraid of her monstrous Quirk, though he responds that he is a bit of a "monster" as well by society. It was then where the two developed a positive relationship, yet Yamori prefers to do without Yōmō's constant politeness as well as her referring to him and others with the honorific "-san". After discovering the Kaiju Herd and soon becoming a part of it, the two established themselves as monsters who bring about destruction to those who mistreated them, much to Yōmō's dismay. While she is against hurting or destroying, Yōmō is very loyal to Yamori and would carry out nearly any order he gives her under the expectations that he will reward her naps and snacks, even if she had to use her Quirk.

Quirk and Abilities
Salamander (鯢 Sanshō̄o): Yamori's Quirk allows him to do anything a salamander can do, such as:
- Sticking to walls
- Camouflage
- Enhanced regeneration
- Anatomical liberation
- Body shedding
- Enhanced vision
- Poisonous body
- Bone sprout
In addition to his mutant powers, Yamori also possesses hidden abilities of the mythic salamander. As part of the Kaiju Herd, his Mutant type Quirk is augmented with the revelation of great potential; his physical strength is enhanced, his speed and agility is increased and has gained complete control of his fire powers.
- Burning Salamander (焼くサラマンダー Yaku Saramandā): This allows him to generate and negate fire and flames. He can engulf his body into flames as well as release them from his limbs and his mouth in the form of fire balls. Yamori is also immune to fire of any kind as he can either absorb or nullify any incoming flames with his body.
- Colored Flames (色の炎 Iro no Honō): With the tattoos/markings on his body and tail, Yamori can release a specific color of fire that augments the intensity of his flames, but they are usually determined by his inner thoughts. Such as red for thoughts of vengeance, violet for thoughts of pain, blue for thoughts of destruction and black for thoughts of death.
- Poison Spit (毒唾 Dokutsuba): Yamori can produce poisonous substance from his salivary glands and shoot it from his mouth. The poison can be lethal, acidic or painfully toxic once it makes contact with another being.
- Scorching Rebel (焦げる叛賊 Kogeru Hanzoku): By engulfing his body in flames, Yamori can increase his speed and charge at his opponents by tackling them with great force. He can leave his targets badly burned after making contact.
